Screen Light

Turn the display into an adjustable white or warm light source for video calls, photography, tracing and close work.

Why this test is useful

Use the screen as simple fill light by moving it closer or farther from the subject and adjusting the device brightness. It is useful, but it does not replace controlled photographic lighting. If the screen must be at maximum brightness and the camera still needs very high ISO, a dedicated light will give more output and control.

Before you start

A reliable way to run the test

  1. Use the screen as simple fill light by moving it closer or farther from the subject and adjusting the device brightness. It is useful, but it does not replace controlled photographic lighting.
  2. Start at the brightness you normally use. Extreme brightness can exaggerate some panel behavior and make the result less representative of daily use.
  3. If the screen must be at maximum brightness and the camera still needs very high ISO, a dedicated light will give more output and control.
  4. After an artificial pattern reveals something, check the same area with real photos, video or games at your normal viewing distance.

What to do next

What this test cannot prove

If the screen must be at maximum brightness and the camera still needs very high ISO, a dedicated light will give more output and control. This is a visual reference, not color calibration. Accurate calibration requires measurement hardware and a controlled color workflow. The test itself runs in the browser. Hosting, analytics or advertising can still make ordinary network requests if the site owner enables them.
